  • Diana Souhami, award-winning author will deliver wonderful insights into an aspect of women’s and lesbian history. Further advice about Diana please see: here & here
  • A speaker TBC from a Commonwealth country in which former discriminatory legislation from the British Empire period still criminalises private consensual behaviours between adult.

The Lectures also mark the start of the Festival of LGBT History Conference: SEXing the Past ‘17.
The aim of these Lectures is to highlight both an aspect of past attitudes towards sex and gender (what might be called LGBT History) and current day campaigns towards sex and gender equality. Past Lectures have featured
1st Lecture 2015     Mr Stuart Milk (Harvey Milk Institute) & Prof C. Upchurch (Florida State University)
2nd Lecture 2016   Peter Tatchell (Peter Tatchell Foundation) & Prof Susan Stryker (Arizona University)
horsfallAllan Horsfall (20 October 1927–27 August 2012) was a British gay rights campaigner and founder of the North West Committee for Homosexual Law Reform, which became the Campaign for Homosexual Equality. In Horsfall’s entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Peter Tatchell described him as ‘one of the grandfathers of the gay rights movement in Britain” and “one of the truly great pioneers of LGBT equality in Britain’.
