Photographer In Residence

Nicolas Chinardet (he/they) is a French photographer based in London. His choice of subjects is eclectic but guided by the tension between the documentary and the artistic. With an eye for the quirky detail, he strives to harness this tension harmoniously to create images that are both striking and beautiful.

A large part of Nicolas’ output is as a society photographer for a number of clubs in London, including nights as varied as Kuch Kuch Bollywood Nights, Hard On, and Beefmince. He is as comfortable shooting in big venues, such as Ministry of Sound, Infernos, the Troxy or the Electric Brixton, as he is in more intimate basement clubs in Dalston or busy bars in Soho. He was a regular photographer for QX Magazine between 2015 and its closure in 2020, and now works for Gay London Life.

Nic has been our official photographer for Schools OUT, photographing UK LGBT+ History Month events for a number of years.

Some of his images are held in the collection of the Black Cultural Archives, and of the Orange County Regional History Center. His work has been featured in a number of collective exhibitions and in many prestigious publications online and in print.
