Exhibitions go up!

Button and Bear

With a little over a week to go until our Launch Night on 17th Feb, things are starting to bubble nicely in Shrewsbury. A walk up Castle Street yesterday and we saw a great window display in the children’s bookshop Button & Bear and another in the library. As the town starts to buzz we popped into the Museum & Art Gallery where there is small exhibition in the Community Space with artefacts from the museum stores linked with LGBT ephemera. This opened on 4th Feb and runs through until 23 April.
Today we start to set up our main festival exhibition at Participate Contemporary Artspace – there is an opening celebration here on Saturday 11th Feb at 2pm to raise a glass of plonk to the exhibits, which include a brand new set of giant History Boards! Drop in  and join us.

On Wednesday 15th February the 2017 Projection starts, running for 4 nights after dusk on the Market Hall Building at Mardol Head. This year’s projection has been designed by Shrewsbury’s young LGBT Group XYZ, with Andy McKeown at Wild Strawberry once again at the helm.
Thursday 16th Feb eases us gently towards the weekend as we join Giselle Louise Ryan at the launch of her gender questioning exhibition ‘Same But Different’ at the Hive at 6.15pm.
Meanwhile, our guest Caroline Paige will have arrived and started visiting schools and colleges in the County including Marches School in Oswestry, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, Meole Brace School and New College Telford – quite a circuit!
Diana Souhami arrives Friday morning and we are hoping to do some interviews with Radio Shropshire betwixt and between events.
And then the Launch. We are delighted to say that we have completely run out of tickets so we expect a turnout of approx 160 people, including 2 Mayors and the Town Crier. We have a full and exciting programme, some nice nibbles, stalls, exhibits, lovely volunteers in festival T-shirts and a tasty tipple courtesy of Barefoot Wine.
