Uganda's LGBT Community To Celebrate Second Pride

The Pride committee of Pride Uganda is excited to announce that the dates for the second pride in Uganda have been set and will be from 31st July to 4th August 2013. It will be five(5) days of activities under the theme, “Still here, Still going strong”.
“We believe this year will be memorable. We have moved from the worries and pressure that comes with organizing an event for the first time and with the help of community members’ suggestions, we intend to give you a safe and great pride experience. We cannot forget about the hardships LGBTI persons endure on a daily basis across this country, and the world…It will be a celebration of acceptance, love and community togetherness.”
There will be several activities which will include an official opening red carpet cocktail and dinner party, film screening, different theme parties, a cultural gala and the Beach Pride parade running during those five days.
The inaugural pride in Uganda was a great success with just one incident of interference by the police, where a few people were detained and released shortly after. We would like to assure you that security will be enforced at all times at all the events.
There will be a pride grounds where most activities will be held, where organizations will access stalls to exhibit their work inform of fliers, brochures, pull up burners and newsletters.
Tickets will be available soon but in the meantime, contact the committee members for your bookings and eventual deliveries. A ticket to all the official pride events is going for ten thousand Uganda shillings (UGX10, 000) and pride T-shirts cost UGX25,000.
Official communications on all the events will be passed out by the media team through the different official pride social media sites to avoid misinformation but you are encouraged to issue updates bearing in mind the necessity to keep the venues anonymous for security reason.
