Intercom Trust launches Schools Transgender Guidance

At last a comprehensive guide to transgender in Schools has been made available to all, thanks to the Intercom Trust in the south west. Working in partnership, Intercom’s Cornwall Advocate, Steve Cannon, the Devon and Cornwall Police Diversity Officer Toby BestGlenda Pomeroy and her colleagues at Cornwall Council (Children Young People and Family Service), and representative Head Teachers from Cornwall Schools, have developed a Guidance Document for schools and families called Cornwall Transgender Guidance for Schools.
It is a detailed survey of the needs of Transgendered Children and Young People who are transitioning while still at school.
The document was widely circulated for consultation, and received strong national support from, amongst others, QWestFTM UK (the Trans Men’s support and campaigning organisation) and the Government’s Department for Education, which intends to link to it here from their website as an example of good practice.
The idea of the Guidance was originally a response to the great increase in Intercom’s casework over the last two years supporting young Trans people in Cornwall and their families and schools.
