Legendary Mexican singer Chavela Vargas has died aged 93. Born in Costa Rica, Vargas emigrated to Mexico at 14 to improve her opportunities as a musician. Massively popular in the 50s and 60s, she came out as a lesbian at the tender age of 81.
Chavela was a friend and possibly a lover of Frida Kahlo. She was also a good friend of Pedro Almadovar, who included her often in his films.
