Boris is back but Greens beat Brian

Boris remains Mayor of London after beating his arch rival Ken Livingstone by a whisker. The result bucks the trend given the drubbing the Tories received at the polls. However, the Lib Dems’ punishing defeat continued as their gay ex-Met Commissioner hopeful Brian Paddick was beaten into fourth place by Green Party candidate Jenny Jones.
Mr Johnson’s openly gay Deputy Mayor is out of office after losing his seat to Labour candidate Dr Onkar Sahota.
Ken Livingstone announced after the result that he would not be standing again. He also accepted that Boris would probably be the Tories’ next leader.
