Brazil: Let's Rid our Schools of Homophobia

Brazil plans to use IDAHO 2012 as an opportunity to eradicate homophobia/transphobia in its schools. International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) takes place every year on may 17th and the Brazilian LGBT rights association AGLBT is using the date to set up a range of meetings to develop initiatives to challenge homophobia in the nation’s schools. This follows the decision by Brazil’s president Dilma Roussef to shelve the state’s cutting edge ‘School without Homophobia’ programme last year following pressure from the religious lobby.
