More Football Pros Fined for Homophobic Tweets

Two more professional footballers have been booked for making homophobic Tweets, even after the entire Premiership League signed up to the Sports anti homophobia and Transphobia Charter at the beginning of this year’s LGBT History Month. In the latest clampdown by the FA, Newcastle United’s Nile Ranger and Walsall FC’s Manny Smith have both been fined. To read more go here.
LGBT History Month co-chair Tony Fenwick commented: “That’s 5 cases since the start of the year. One is inclined to wonder whether this is bungling, passive incompetence on the part of some players or whether there is a sort of low level protest by some players who feel that they should be free to say homophobic things. Either way, we welcome the FA’s supportive responses.”
