Gay Ugandan Beaten as Deportation Attempt Stopped by Captain

An eleventh hour attempt to stop the deportation of Felix Wamala failed after the Captain refused to fly the asylum seeker back to Uganda. Wamala, who is seeking asylum on the grounds that he is gay and will face persecution if he returns to his native country, was granted a judicial review after the intervention of lawyers. Yet, despite a judicial review of the decision being introduced on December the 23rd, the Borders Agency attempted to go ahead with the deportation anyway. It was only prevented by the captain’s refusal to go ahead with the flight as long as Wamala was on it.
Felix Wamala states that when he said there was a judicial review on his case after boarding the plane, the agency staff set about him and forced him to the ground. He is now injured and is detained at Colnbrook IRC.
Please protest to your local MP and the Home Office about this case, because there seems to be an urgency to deport Mr Wamala during the holiday period.
