Gays get Gongs

We are delighted that Tim Lucas received an MBE and John Amaechi an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Tim has been a member of Schools OUT and is its ex-treasurer. He was a committed trades unionist and activist for LGBT people within the NUT since the early 1980s. His honour is for services to LGBT people. John is a patron of LGBT History Month, an ex-basketball pro, a psychologist/counsellor and an LGBT rights activist to boot. His OBE is for services to sport and the voluntary sector.
In the previous round of gongs, Clare Dimyon of Pride Solidarity received an MBE for her support of Prides in Central and Easter Europe.
And, on a personal note, would the gay press and various bloggers please celebrate this news and sing from the rooftops about it instead of just banging on about Brian Souter getting a knighthood? Try celebrating the positive as well as the negative!
