Roger Taber
From the mother of a gay son: I am the mother of a gay son and am writing to tell you about a collection of poems I was given for Christmas – The Third Eye: poems by R. N. Taber. Like his other volumes – Love And Human Remains & First Person Plural – it has a gay section; there are also gay poems in other sections where appropriate. As far as I know, Roger Taber is the only contemporary poet who combines gay and other poems in his work. I have also seeen some of his gay poems in (general) Forward Press anthologies. My family enjoy Roger Taber’s poetry very much but his gay poetry touches us in particular as it was not easy coming to terms with my son being gay. I have been in touch with Roger by e-mail. My son and the rest of our family especially applaud the fact that he expresses the view that gay poetry should no more be seen as a genre-within-a-genre separate from mainstream poetry/literature than gay men and women should be seen as separate from mainstream society. Details of his poetry collections are on amazon.co.uk as well as some reviews. Examples of his poetry can be found by clicking on the link below:
