Obituary – Angela Clayton MBE

We’ve received the very sad news of the recent death of Angela Clayton MBE. Angela, who as a member of Prospect, was involved for many years with the TUC LGBT conference (as a delegate) and as a member of the TUC LGBT Committee. She was a powerful advocate for the rights of trans people, and was also a leading activist in the organisation Press for Change. Angela’s life will be remembered at the LGBT Conference this year

We’re Going! Are You? Camden LGBT Forum announces WORLD’s largest program for LGBT History Month 2014: The London Boroughs of Camden and Islington are to host the world’s largest program for LGBT History Month throughout February 2014. The program is put together by Camden LGBT Forum with the support of Camden and Islington Councils and a team of highly dedicated volunteers. This month is about celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans histories. The theme is music but events cross genres of film, poetry, science, biography and art.

The BBC have arranged to record for 5Live 1 hour of the event in 2x 30 minute slots during the evening. Hosting the event will be Mark ‘Chappers’ Chapman and 5Live will use the recording and snippets a few days later for their special LGBT HM day.

Cameroon: Gay man who was jailed for sending affectionate text message dies at 34 – A gay man in Cameroon who was jailed for sending a text message to another man, saying “I’m very much in love with you,” has died.Roger Jean-Claude Mbede, 34, passed away on Friday roughly one month after his family removed him from the hospital where he had been seeking treatment for a hernia. Mr Mbede was arrested in March 2011 in connection with the text message and received a three-year sentence.

We have the rules finalised for our film competition. We’re asking schools around the country to make a short film about a British LGBT rights campaigner, combined with the life of inspirational US campaigner Harvey Milk. The film is being run in conjunction with The Harvey Milk Foundation. Closing date 20th July 2014.
