John McCain in surprise condemnation of Putin's hate Laws

John McCain, defeated Republican candidate in the 2008 US Presidential election, has submitted an ‘op-ed’ piece to Russian neswspaper Pravda. While the piece was not published in Russia, it has been released on the English language website Pravda.ru. In it, McCain says “President Putin and his associates… don’t respect your dignity or accept your authority over them. They punish dissent and imprison opponents… they write laws to codify bigotry against people whose sexual orientation they condemn”. Putin’s laws were then debated in the studio, where Stuart Milk was a guest.

The news comes only a couple of days after Schools OUT UK and several other groups who have been campaigning against homophobia in sport for several years voiced their concerns over the wording of a slogan.

We are Family’ LGBT History Month 2014 Event and Evening Ball – Sat February 8th 2014. Tickets for the evening ball will go on sale at the Plymouth Respect Festival on October 12th 2013 and will be available through the Pride in Plymouth website, and other outlets in the city.

PUFFBALL PROJECT – Roundhouse Theatre

The Roundhouse are running a FREE 6-week performance and media project for 16-25 year-olds not currently in education, employment or training and who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and / or Questioning (LGBTQ).
Working with award-winning artist Mark Storor and leading media producer Nicola Prestage and a professional circus performer, participants can choose to use storytelling, art, theatre and circus to share stories, OR use film, audio and blogging to create and showcase material online.
We are looking for people who have open minds, are willing to get involved and want to engage in an opportunity to develop their skills. No previous experience is necessary, just a interest in your chosen area. The project is FREE and lunch/travel costs will be provided.
