2014 edition of Past2Present

The 2014 edition of Past2Present is the 7th! And the biggest so far at 64 pages. (The downside is that the file is big, slightly over 9Mb). This year they look at the LGBT influence on pop music in the 70s and 80s, Music Hall, the beginnings of gender affirmation surgery and Russia – among lots of other stuff.

At Schools OUT we have consistently worked since 1974 to change the law and culture on LGBT people and issues. We have been acutely aware that they are two distinct and linked areas that are crucial in enabling the safety and visibility of the diversity of LGBT people in a country. John Vincent’s book is a useful and pretty comprehensive look at what happed in the UK in both areas since 1950.

Educate OUT Prejudice at Morley College: All learners should be free to learn in an environment where they and staff feel comfortable about sexual orientation and gender identities. Unfortunately this is not always the case. This project will offer practical solutions to support the inclusion of LGB and/or T themes into the adult ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) curriculum.
The concert is FREE but does require tickets to be reserved (see article)

The Winner of The Green Carnation Prize 2013 – Andrew Solomon is the latest author to win the Green Carnation Prize with ‘Far From The Tree’ a book about exceptional children which celebrates what it means to be human in all its diversity.

An exhibition featuring community, experimental, Black, Asian, lesbian, gay, women’s, disabled, political, Theatre-in-Education, agit-prop, physical, visual, performance art, vernacular drama, new writing, satirical and many other theatre companies; championing a generation of artists whose work has influenced and shaped present day British theatre.

For all literary fans of the great Armistead Maupin, you’ll be hugely excited to know that the 9th book in Maupin’s critically and popularly acclaimed ‘Tales of th City’ series will be published in January 2014. “The Days Of Anna Madrigal” chronicles the twilight years of literature’s most beloved trans woman, now 92, and her journey from San Francisco back to Winnemucca.
