Back in early 1990s, with the AIDS crisis at its height, Dr Jeff Evans and Simon McGurk, then students in Salford, fell foul of the National Union of Students while attempting to get sexual health and safer sex advice to those most at risk, and the Salford Students Gay Society was closed down. Jeff didn’t set foot in the NUS building again until 2019.
