Gay Ugandan Wins 11th hour Reprieve

Following consistent intervention, Felix Wamala will not be deported to his native Uganda tonight. The deportation has been deferred while the Borders agency investigate allegations made over the previous deportation attempt. The news was given to Felix by his constituency MP Stephen Timms, who has worked with his team during the holiday period to secure a reprieve. Although the authorities still intend to deport Wamala, they have missed the holiday period – when everyone is looking the other way – and will have to be more accountable to the public, the lawyers and the media.
