Outspoken Sex Ed

Our latest newsletter – https://www.outspokeneducation.com/newsletter – was entitled “LGBT History Month, Andrew Tate influence & Noah Schnapp comes out” and began this way, with links: Happy LGBT+ History Month! It’s LGBT+ History Month in the UK! The 2023 theme: #BehindTheLens, which naturally includes people working in film, TV, photography, music and fashion. What is LGBT History Month? (Twinkl, 1/2/23) has quick facts to tell kids about the Stonewall Riots and the Equality Act 2010 plus ideas on who and how to celebrate. And why! As the LGBT+ History Month campaign says: it’s vital to claim our past, celebrate our present and create our future. Meanwhile Into Film got us thinking about topics like the decriminalisation of homosexuality or the Aids crisis; current issues like Don’t Say Gay rhetoric, conversion therapy or sexuality in sports; themes like anti-bullying, embracing difference, acceptance, equality, respect and empathy, plus identities and experiences like same-sex parents, first love and coming out. Even if you don’t traipse around the actual British Museum, you can show your child the 18 antiquities featured in their online Desire, Love, Identity: LGBTQ histories trails. Let’s think about how far society has come, and about the importance of kindness, solidarity and visibility (“If you can’t see it,” the saying goes, “you can’t be it”)…
