The Jan Bridget Collection at Lancashire Archives is OUTing the Past in the North West

The co-founder of Lesbian Information Service (1987-1998) and Gay and Lesbian Youth in Calderdale (1999-2011) is giving an introduction to the ‘Jan  Bridget Collection’ held at Lancashire Archives in Preston.
JBarchive2“All too often,” Jan said, “the history of LGBT people, in particular lesbians, is hidden.  It is fantastic that Lancashire Archives agreed to accept my huge collection of books, papers, interviews, research and other documents.”
It is a significant library and archive collected over 30 years and includes 344 books and the contents of boxes such as academic papers, resource lists, newspaper cuttings and other useful information categorised into 52 subjects ranging from Abuse/Battering through to Trans issues.
These have now been catalogued and are accessible to the public.  Jan’s talk will give you an idea of the vast contents of the Collection, how to search on-line and how to access the material at the Archive.
As well as the library and research papers, the Collection includes research and reports of the various projects both LIS and GALYIC were involved in such as young people, alcohol, and mental health.
If you are involved in LGBT issues, either on a personal or professional level, then it is likely you will find something here to interest you.
