Attacks on lesbians in townships will only end once government denounces the incidents, a local rights group said on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, two Gugulethu women were hospitalised after they were attacked by a man.
They were allegedly beaten, kicked and verbally abused after leaving a night club in the township because they are homosexual.
Free Gender spokesperson Funeka Soldaat said, “We have to see something that says that homophobia is not OK on billboards. We need to put that pressure on government because [the problem of] violence against women should be a priority.”
Western Cape police confirmed they that they were investigating the matter, and no one had yet been charged for the incident.
