Nepal Recognises Third Gender

Nepal has come to recognise officially that its citizens are not all male or female. The Nepalese Government has passed a resolution allowing people who do not fit into the binary code of gender identity to describe themselves as ‘other’ on official documentation.
Other countries to look at changes in such legislation are Australia, India, Pakistan and New Zealand, all of which are in the southern hemisphere.
The United Nations High Commission for Human Rights has congratulated the Nepalese Government by letter.
The new law is thanks largely to Sunil  Pant (pictured), the country’s only out gay MP and founder of Nepal’s LGBT rights organisation The Blue Diamond Society.
Nepal is hosting the First South Asia LGBT Sports Festival from the 12 th to the 14th of October.
