Brighton Council Stops recording Homophobic Incidents in Schools

Brighton and Hove LEA has come under severe criticism after its decision to stop recording homophobic incidents in its schools after a sharp rise in the number of recorded incidents. The number of incidents reported in the city and surround’s schools was 74 last year, thirty more than the previous year. The Council will now rely on monitoring surveys to measure the extent of homophobia in LEA schools. Chris Cooke, chair of the city’s LGBT Community Safety Forum, called the change “scandalous.”
