Sportswomen and campaigners have expressed outrage that the ten sports stars shortlisted for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year are all men. Gold medal winners such as Rebecca Adlington and Keri-Anne Payne have been overlooked by the sports journalists and reporters who decide on the finalists.
Paralympic sports Tanni Grey-Thompson said it highlights the coverage problem of sport. Whilst rejecting the concept of ‘tokenism’ she claimed that the problem centres around the lack of media coverage of women’s participation on sport.
