SUMMARY:LGBT+ Filmmakers Showcase: Tales of Inter- and Intra-actions
DESCRIPTION:To register please click here\nPlease contact the Phoenix Box Office on 0116 242 2800 if you have any booking queries.\nThis event is part of #DMUpride, to mark LGBTQ+ History Month.\nIn partnership with the Phoenix, it’s time to shout “ACTION” as we cast our eyes on a selection of beautifully made films from the LGBTQ+ community. The films are accompanied by a post-screening filmmakers Questions and Answers session, where we’ll be discussing what queer living looks like to them.\nThe focal point of discussion will explore inter-actions in the heteronormative world and Intra-actions in the queer world, to understand and celebrate the construction of LGBTQ+ identities. We’ll be exploring moments of queer joy, hardship and triumph, along with what authenticity means to them.\nTickets cost:  £3 (+50p admin fee)\nFilms include:\nEveryman – a personal, visual essay about gender transition – focusing on the social context and implications and exploring how the world is different living as female compared to being perceived as male.\nCindy – Cindy’s first drag performance isn’t exactly a success; when a filmed wardrobe malfunction unexpectedly goes viral, she is forced to face the reactions of her families; the one she’s born into, and the one she’s chosen.\nFinger Prick – Alone in the bathroom, 26-year-old Alexi continues to deal with feelings of shame and guilt after one night of discreet pleasure, whilst he takes a home testing HIV kit.\nSweet Mother – a short drama set in Sheffield. It tells the story of a British-Nigerian man who is forced to confront cultural rejection when his mother discovers his sexuality.\nThe Cost of Living – a surreal, comedy-noir about waking up to life: When Lily, a disconnected, neurotic, ‘wellness’-freak, has a brush with death, she comes face-to- face with her greatest fear. But DEATH appears to Lily as a femme fatale and Lily finds herself unexpectedly giddy with desire.\nPost-screening discussion will be hosted by Astra Sword. She will be joined by:\nRosanagh Griffiths – writer, director, and co-producer of Cindy\nEdward Burton – writer and director of Finger Prick\nZane Igbe – writer and director of Sweet Mother\nAlice Trueman – editor, writer, and director of The Cost of Living\n
